Advising Course Plan - Communication and Media Studies Major 3-Year Plan

This advising plan shows an example of working through the requirements for the major in three years.  It is appropriate for students who have already completed eight units of coursework.  The student’s individual academic plan will be developed in consultation with an adviser and reviewed each semester prior to registering for the next semester.  This plan assumes that the student has not taken any courses for the major prior to the first semester shown in the plan.

A&S students must take 5 of the 6 Knowledge of Human Cultures courses, one Personal and Social Responsibility course, and one Quantitative Reasoning Course (in addition to the FSEM, JSEM, and Writing requirements).

A&S students must take 4 writing courses (of which two might be an FSEM and a JSEM).

COMM majors must take COMM 108 and COMM 200 and their choice of any two other COMM 200-level courses.

COMM majors must take at least two of the following courses: COMM 301COMM 302, and/or COMM 303; the order does not matter. These courses should not be taken during the same semester. Highly recommended in the Junior year. Prerequisites: COMM 200 and at least one other 200-level COMM course.

COMM majors must take two COMM 300- or 400-level classes. Additionally, COMM majors must also take COMM 397, which is recommended once they have reached junior status.

Prerequisites: Two of the following: COMM 301COMM 302, and/or COMM 303 (all of which have prerequisites as well) and at least one other 300- or 400-level COMM course. COMM 498 only offered in the fall.

Prerequisites:COMM 498 (which has several prerequisites as well). COMM 499 only offered in the spring.
