Stetson is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s, and Educational Specialist degrees in the College of Arts & Sciences; bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the School of Business Administration; bachelor’s degrees in the School of Music; the Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees in the College of Law; and a joint J.D.-M.B.A. degree. COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM

100 & 200 are lower division undergraduate courses

300 & 400 are upper division undergraduate courses

500 & 600 are graduate level courses

BASIC GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate students must satisfactorily complete all general education and major requirements as specified, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in overall coursework and in the major. Graduate students must complete all program requirements with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. GPA is determined by dividing the total points by GPA hours.

CREDIT

From September 1951 to July 2009, Stetson operated on the semester system and the unit of credit was the semester hour for all programs. Beginning August 2009, for the College of Arts and Sciences and August 2010, for the School of Business, credit for undergraduate courses are awarded in Course Units. 1 Course Unit is equivalent to 4 credit hours. The unit of credit in undergraduate programs in the School of Music is the semester hour.  The unit of credit in all graduate programs is the semester hour.

TRANSFER CREDIT

Stetson University accepts credits from other institutions of higher education with regional accreditation. Credit granted is based on equivalency of course content and academic credit hours providing that grades of C or better (not C-) have been assigned by the issuing institution. Transfer credit may be used to satisfy specific degree, program, or general education course requirements. Grades earned at the issuing institution are not used to compute GPA except in determining university graduation honors.

Prior to August 1979, the grading system was on a 3-point scale.

Prior to Fall 2010 students could choose to forgive two courses originally failed by repeating the failed course(s).  A repeated course included in the GPA is identified by a letter “I” in the R (Repeated) column.  A repeated course excluded in GPA is identified by a letter “E” in the R column.

In Fall 2010 Stetson implemented two new policies: Course Exclusion and Course Retake.  Students can choose to exclude one failed or passed course.  The course excluded is not factored into GPA calculation. However, if the course excluded was a passed course, it is excluded from credits/units earned.  Such a course is identified by a letter “E” in the R column with no corresponding “I” in the R column.  Students can also choose to retake a passed course.  The credits/unit earned for the second attempt is not calculated in credits earned; but is averaged into the GPA.  Such courses are identified by a letter “E” in the R column with a corresponding “I” in the “R” column.  Grades for a course excluded or a course retaken are factored into GPA when determining academic honors at graduation.
