Advancement to Candidacy

Admission to the program allows you to pursue work toward the degree. However, admission does not guarantee an Advancement status.

Educational Leadership (MEd)

You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have completed 11 credit hours of Stetson University program-specific coursework.

For all graduate Education Programs, the student must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to work in school leadership and other educational settings.  By not meeting all of the requirements above, the student will not advance. To remain academically eligible for this program, standards must be maintained as part of the total program requirements. Students are notified when action has been taken by the Graduate Council.

Higher Education Administration and Supervision (MS)

You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have completed 11 credit hours of Stetson University program-specific coursework.

Exceptional Student Education (MEd)

You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have completed 9 credit hours. 

For all graduate Education Programs, the student must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to work in school leadership and other educational settings.  By not meeting all of the requirements above, the student will not advance. To remain academically eligible for this program, standards must be maintained as part of the total program requirements. Students are notified when action has been taken by the Graduate Council.

Counselor Education (MS)

To be advanced to candidacy, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have completed 18 credit hours of Stetson University program coursework.  Additionally, the student must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to work as a professional counselor. Faculty will review each eligible student for advancement during the Annual Student Review.  Students are notified when action has been taken by the Graduate Council.  

Academic Standing

A graduate student enrolled in a graduate business program who maintains an overall 3.0 GPA is considered to be in good academic standing.

Academic Probation

  • A student whose overall GPA is below 3.0 GPA after completing a minimum of six credits of advanced-level coursework will be placed on academic probation.
  • A student on probation who attains a 3.0 overall GPA in accordance with this policy will be removed from probation and be considered in good academic standing but must maintain a 3.0 overall GPA throughout the remainder of the program.

Academic Dismissal

  • A graduate business student receiving a D or F in an advanced-level class will be dismissed from the program. 
  • A student on probation who does not attain a 3.0 overall GPA after completion of a maximum of twelve additional credits of advanced-level coursework (completion of at least 18 total credits) will be dismissed from the program.
  • A dismissed student may apply for re-admission after a one-year absence from the program but is not guaranteed acceptance

Dismissal Appeals

Any student who has been dismissed from a graduate business program may submit a written appeal to the Executive Director. The Executive Director, in consultation with the program director, may uphold the dismissal, accept an appeal to allow for continuation in the program with conditions, or may overturn the dismissal without conditions. Readmission is not guaranteed.

Readmission

  • Any student who has not maintained active enrollment in their graduate business program for one regular semester (fall or spring), other than for an approved leave of absence, must apply for readmission.
  • Any student who is readmitted must meet all requirements of the Graduate Business Program as established at the time of readmission.
  • A student who was dismissed from a graduate business program may apply for readmission after a full calendar year has elapsed since the dismissal.
  • A student seeking readmission must first submit a re-entry application to the Office of Graduate Admissions. Graduate Admissions will determine the student’s eligibility for potential readmission. The student may be asked to submit additional information.
  • Students who were dismissed and are deemed eligible for potential readmission may be asked to submit a written appeal that addresses the reasons that led to their absence and steps they will take to ensure they are successful in the program if permitted to return. Students may also submit evidence, including letters of reference, that they believe supports their rationale for success in the program if allowed to return.
  • The Executive Director, in consultation with the program director, will determine whether the student may be allowed to be readmitted and if any conditions must be met for that readmission. The Office of Graduate Business Programs will issue the decision in writing to the student. Readmission is not guaranteed.
