Language Placement Exams and Credits

All music majors are required to complete one foreign language course at the 102L level. Students may fulfill this requirement through examination. If a student takes a language placement examination administered by the World Languages and Cultures Department (this examination must be taken in person in the Language Commons) and receives advanced placement beyond the 102L level, they will be considered to have satisfied that portion of the language requirement for music degrees. However, students do not receive credit for any exempted language courses and must still complete additional non-music electives to meet the required number of course units.
