Technology Requirements

Students in the School of Music need access to a computer to complete common everyday tasks such as read and respond to emails using their Stetson email account, access MyStetson and Canvas, take notes in classroom meetings, complete assignments as part of their regular coursework (e.g., type an essay in MS Word), browse the internet, etc. Students are responsible for procuring an electronic device (computer, laptop, or tablet) with the following specifications:

  • Windows or Macintosh operating system
  • Wi-fi capability
  • Webcam and microphone
  • It must be sufficiently powerful to operate the latest updated version of any of the following web browsers: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or Firefox

Students are encouraged to bring their laptop or mobile device to their class meetings.

The computer lab in the School of Music is located on the second floor of Presser Hall. While hours of operation may vary, the lab is generally open from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Use of the 14 computer stations is restricted to the School of Music students currently enrolled in classes at Stetson University. Each station has current software for most computing needs, including Sibelius, Dorico, and MuseScore, for music notation; Logic, Audacity, GarageBand, iMovie, and Final Cut for audio/video editing; and the Microsoft Office suite.
