Advising Course Plan - Religious Studies Major - 2 Year Plan

This advising plan shows an example of working through the requirements for the major in two years.  It is appropriate for students who have already completed sixteen units of coursework with many of the General Education requirements satisfied by that earlier coursework.  The student’s individual academic plan will be developed in consultation with an adviser and reviewed each semester prior to registering for the next semester.  This plan assumes that the student has taken a RELS elective equal to RELS 10X prior to the first semester shown in the plan.  Students who have completed less than 16 units, have a substantial number of General Education requirements yet to satisfy, or who have not completed the courses just listed may not be able to complete the degree in two years.

Courses for the major that should be completed prior to the first semester of this plan: RELS 10X: One unit from a 100-level (RELS 100B, RELS 102B, RELS 103B, RELS 105B, RELS 108B or RELS 109B).

RELS 499 can be waived if the student has a double major and chooses to complete their senior research in that major, so long as their thesis can successfully argue that it pertains to Religious Studies and so long as they take a RELS elective as a supplement to achieve 10 units in the major.

Units in Jewish and Christian traditions, Islamic and Asian religious traditions, and Religion, History, and Society can be satisfied any semester and do not have pre-requisites.

3

If RELS 380 or RELS 480 cannot be satisfied, a RELS elective unit can substitute for only one.
